Membership & Volunteer

As a member of Dyslexia Association Birmingham (DAB) you will receive newsletters informing you of the work we are currently doing and detailing local events.

Volunteers: if you would like to be a volunteer for 2 hours per week on the Helpline or to do clerical work (training given on both) don’t hesitate to call or email us.

We would also like to hear from you if you are, interested in finding out more about becoming a Trustee of DAB.

Tutors: A list of qualified tutors (CRB Checked) offering private tuition

Assessments: We have a list of Educational Psychologists and of Teacher Assessors which you can contact directly

What services does DAB (Dyslexia Association Birmingham) offer?

Befriending: To help Parents/carers understand the process involved in obtaining Special Needs provision, a Befriender provides support and knowledge which can give confidence when attending meetings with Schools and Local Education Authorities

Membership: receive the DAB Newsletter and BDA Contact magazine 3 times per year with the latest updates plus a wealth of information via the helpline, email and website.

Helpline: this offers understanding, support, information and empowers you to make decisions and options on how to go forward.

Members Drop in to see us by appointment if you need to ask for or collect further information. We also hold drop in sessions for all – look out for notices in the press and libraries

Screening

DAB offers a basic screening to both Adults and young people. Cost:£50 Given by a qualified dyslexia assessor the screening is computer based and the whole process only takes 20 to 30 mins. Adults will receive a report, when results are positive Adults receive an information pack and young people (up to 19) will receive 1 year free membership of DAB for them and their families.

Volunteers

We need volunteers to help run our helpline, offering  support and information to Parents/Carers and professionals with an interest in Dyslexia. Full training will be given.

-If  you have 2 hours per week to spare, enjoy being part of a team and you enjoy talking to people
